Misty is a dog who lives on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. She loves playing in the waves near a restaurant called the SunShine Shack, just down the beach from where she lives with Bankie Banx, a famous reggae singer.
One day Misty meets a fish named Splash who surprises her with an unusual ability. They play a game of chase in the waves. But after a while, Splash disappears. Misty goes back each day to look for Splash, hoping the fish will return. Then a hurricane roars into Anguilla, and there's her friend... in danger!
Misty springs into action. As the waves crash, she rushes to the sea and saves her struggling friend. She then hurries back home, taking Splash with her. Misty, Bankie, and Splash – who's safe in a bucket – ride out the storm together. But a house isn't a home for a fish. Misty learns that sometimes being a good friend means letting go, and hoping to meet again.

About the Illustrator
ADAM GARLICKI, known as Adam G, is an American artist living in Anguilla. Coming to
the island to help rebuild after the hurricane Irma, he tuned into the nature of the island and the colorful inspiration that the slow lifestyle and beautiful environment bring. Most of his work can be found in larger-than-life murals throughout Anguilla and nearby islands, depicting a range of subjects from sea turtles and reef fish to tropical landscapes and island goats. Being the father of a little boy, Adam’s artwork has a whimsical style, which is reflected in many of the youth art projects he has been a part of.
A portion of the author’s profits supports the Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) along with the Project Stingray children’s music and education program founded by Bankie Banx.
TO THE REAL MISTY:
From the author: "I saw Misty playing in the water behind the SunShine Shack during a visit to Anguilla in 2019. She kept poking her head in the waves as if she were looking for something. I imagined it was a fish, and that's how I came up with the idea of Splash. Misty was well-loved by Bankie and visitors and locals alike, and was a true Anguilla Beach Dog. And Garvey really did feed her meat from the delicious barbecued ribs he serves at his beachside restaurant!"
